Someone upstairs decided to play a joke on me today. This morning I woke up to snow. It was so sad all I could do was laugh but let me start at the beginning of the story ....
I was born and bred in Beautiful British Columbia and I loved almost everything about living there. I come from a big family and an even bigger extended family. My siblings and I are all musical and artistic and spent many a day doing musical and artistic things together. I would have gladly stayed for the rest of my life but God had other plans.
I met the love of my life three years ago and we got along really well (which might be an understatement). Being young, and very much in love, it never crossed my mind that the fact we came from different provinces could be a problem. We got married anyways of course and have for the past six months have been living quite contentedly in BC. About a month ago however, my Hubby got a very good job offer ... in Alberta.
Problem 1. My family lives in BC and is very close (but his family lives in AB and are also very close).
Problem 2. I'm allergic to the cold.
Problem 3. Twelve hours is a very long time to be in a car to visit (but I am able to sleep the time away).
Problem 4. I'm allergic to the cold
Problem 5. I am very shy (but I do know several people here already).
Problem 6. I'm allergic to the cold
Did I mention that I am allergic to the cold?
Somehow the fact that in my mind Alberta is a frozen wasteland for most of the year didn't seem like a big concern to my Husband. Everyone keeps brushing the weather off saying "You'll get used to it really soon" and "It's not THAT cold." Yesterday as we drove up they tried to cheer me up by telling me that the snow was almost all melted and this week was supposed to be really warm so it would all be gone before I knew it.
And yet this morning the scene from my window was something from a Winter Wonderland. I have to admit it was beautiful and most of the snow has melted in the afternoon sun already.
The worst part was that while I was getting ready for church I found out that the only shoes I had were not suitable for the weather.
Well played snow, well played.
